Jonesboro Marathon & Marathon Relay

Fitness Boot Camp Unlimited, NEA Baptist Clinic, Jonesboro.com and Occasions Publishing Group presents Jonesboro’s first ever Jonesboro Marathon & Marathon Relay.

The Jonesboro Marathon is limited to the first 500 to register and will be timed by Stearns Race Timing , LLC. The race will be limited to six hours (beginning at 6 a.m.).

Start times: 6 a.m. Early Start (for those needing more than 6 hours); 6:50 a.m. for wheelchair, hand cycle and physically challenged athlete start; 7 a.m. General Start.

The 5K Fun Run begins at 8:15 a.m. and is open to walkers and runners.

The scenic course features Jonesboro’s beautiful landmarks and entertainment throughout the course!

The Jonesboro Marathon benefits the Jonesboro Center for Healthy Children.

Women Can Ride

The Plan: The first ever women’s only cycling program of its kind in the state! The clinic will be modeled after the ever-popular Women Can Run series. We will divide into groups based on fitness/comfort level on the bike and meet twice weekly for group rides. Participants will learn the basics of bicycle riding (shifting, braking, etc), the rules of the road, group ride etiquette, and more. Training goals and rides will be catered to meet the needs of each group.

Who Can Participate: Women ages 16 and up (under 18 must have parent’s permission).We hope that you’ll join us, whether it’s been years since your last bike ride, or you’re looking to begin racing.

When:

Saturday, May 14th, 9am: Orientation – Packet Pick-up, Road Skills 101
Sundays, May 15th – July 3rd, 2pm: Group Rides
Tuesdays, May 17th – July 5th, 5:30pm: Group Rides
Saturday, July 9th: Ride the Ridge Poker Run – Celebration Event

*Additional clinics may be scheduled throughout at times and locations to be determined.

Gearhead Outfitters Sprint Triathlon

500 Yard Swim * 10.2 Mile Bike * 3.0 Mile Run

The Gearhead Outfitters Sprint Triathlon will be held at Craighead Forest Park, located off Culberhouse Drive in South Jonesboro Arkansas. Racers will Swim 500 yards in Craighead Forest Lake, Ride 10.2 miles along scenic Crowley’s Ridge and Run one 3.0 mile loop on the park road.

The Gearhead Outfitters Sprint Triathlon is a beginner-friendly triathlon. We will use a wave start for the swim, and the bike and run courses will be closed to traffic. Don’t be deceived by the distances; the course is short, but can be a very challenging, fast race for more experienced triathletes. The bike course has several rolling hills with a few steep climbs. The run course has a challenging climb at mile marker 1.5.

Each registered racer will receive a goody bag full of cool swag, including a fun T-shirt, a performance race shirt, Headsweats running hat and other swag from our sponsors.

USA Triathlon membership card and a picture ID will be required for packet pickup. USA Triathlon waivers will be filled out at packet pick-up.

There will be early race packet pick-up on Friday May 6, 2011 from 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Downtown Gearhead Outfitters Store, 230 S. Main Street, Jonesboro Arkansas. You are highly encouraged to pick up your packet on Friday.

Race day packet pick-up will begin Saturday May 7th at 6:00 am, with the transition area opening at 6:30 am. Check-in/registration will close promptly at 7:30 am, and the transition area closing at 7:45 am. The first swim wave will begin at 8:00 am.

The cost of the Gearhead Outfitters Sprint Triathlon is $60.00 through April 1, 2011 and $75.00 after April 1st for online registration. Online registration is available up to Thursday May 5 at 5:00 PM.

Mail in registration cost is $70.00 through April 1, 2011 and $85.00 after April 1st and must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2011. Race day registration will be $85.00. There will be no refunds.

All participants must be USA Triathlon members or purchase a one day event license for $10.00.

Arkansas Ride For the Cure

Cyclists from the Mid-South are invited to the Arkansas Ride for the Cure® benefiting the Arkansas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Proceeds from the event will provide funds for education, screening and treatment programs for breast cancer. St. Bernards Healthcare, St. Bernards Sports Medicine, HMG (Healthcare Medical Group), and Gearhead Outfitters are proud sponsors of this event.

The Arkansas Ride for the Cure® is being held in conjunction with the HMG Health & Fitness Expo at the Arkansas State University Convocation Center the weekend of April 16,17. Join us for the Ride for the Cure®, and then enjoy being part of the largest Health & Fitness Expo in the state! If you are not able to make it to Jonesboro for the Ride, please consider joining us as a Spirit Rider. All Spirit Riders will receive t-shirts, if registered by March 25, 2011.

The 2011 Ride for the Cure® will begin and end on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the Convocation Center off of Stadium Drive. Join us for an 9:30 a.m. riders’ start with police escort out of town, and then enjoy a 10, 20 or 50-mile ride through beautiful Crowley’s Ridge in Northeast Arkansas. The three courses offer very little traffic on quite country farm roads. The 10 & 20-mile rides will be beginner friendly with SAG support & rest stops along the way. The 50-mile loop will have two additional rest stops. All courses will be well-marked and supported throughout the ride.

Each pre-registered participant is guaranteed a Ride for the Cure® T-Shirt and goody bag. The Pre-Ride Kickoff will be held inside the Convocation Center on Friday April 15, 2011 where riders may register and pick up their packets. The day of the Ride for the Cure®, check-in and packet pickup will begin at 7:00 a.m. in the Blue Entrance. The ride will promptly begin at 9:30 a.m., with helmets required for all riders. In addition to T-Shirts, Ride Jerseys will be available on a limited basis. A request for a Jersey must be listed on the registration with appropriate size.

Master’s Run

Master’s Run is a weekly speed work training group for intermediate to advanced runners, led by Ted Herget. Goals are to increase both speed and efficiency for 5K through marathon distances. The group meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:15pm at the Jonesboro High School Track.

There is no fee associated with Master’s Run.
